August Currently

I'm linking up with Farley at O'boy 4th Grade for her amazing monthly Currently!

Here's my August Currently

In the morning I set in the living room, check my e-mail, and make "the list for the day." Cheddar, my cat, thinks he's my personal assistant and thinks his job is to  to keep me and the computer warm.  Regardless of my huffs and grunts he makes himself cozy and turns on the purr immediately.

I know this probably sounds crazy to some but I  love the beginning of the year. We get to start fresh and renewed. The classroom has been emptied, cleaned out and reorganized. The kids have a new outlook after taking some time off to relax and enjoy their own hobbies and interests. It is a fantastic time of year.

"The List" is really not as daunting as it sounds. I've recently read 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Fantastic read, I would recommend it to anyone. One of the main principles is recognizing our various roles and prioritizing our to  do lists. Believe it or not, I've found that I'm no longer scrambling for time or complaining that there is not enough time. (Maybe every now and then but only for selfish reasons.) I've found it easier to be more present in the moment and not always worrying about the next item to mark off the list.

I want 30 more min. to listen to my silly cat purr, to reflect on my personal goals for the day,  and to soak in the quiet, calm morning.

I'm needing to relax because I can feel that anxiety of "how am I ever going to complete the tasks on my list" when I know I just need to take a deep breath and prioritize. It will all get done.

Here's to the start of a fabulous new year! What's on your list of Currently...?

  1. I love cats! Mine is the same way--loves to be on my lap whether it is convenient or not. I feel the same way about the beginning of school--it is a fresh start for teachers and students. Have a great school year!

  2. I have two cats as well after being a dog person for 15 years. :) They are very relaxing. :) Wow, it's hard to think about starting school today. I am in New Jersey and we just finished at the end of June and go back the first week of September. I'm trying to relax as well. It takes me a while to slow down once the year ends but it has been helpful that there is a summer program going on in my classroom and I can't go in at all until that ends next week! :) Happy new school year!

    1. I didn't go in to my room at all this summer because they were painting. I thought I was going to walk into a crazy mess but I was pleasantly surprised and very glad I didn't come in. It was a much needed break!
